The backwaters of Kerala are huge they just can’t be explored completely in a day. So we decided to make a stop at the Kollam village. The village is linked with the backwaters though the Ashtamudi lake .
Our experience here was the most memorable on as never I have felt so relaxed and so far removed from hectic city life. Even on Lake Vembanad which is considered to the best lake in Kerala, the waterways were surrounded by houseboats ferrying tourists around. But here on Lake Ashtamudi time seemed to stretch on, with only a few houseboats and fishing boats passing by.
We stayed at the Aquasserenne Resort which is one of the best hotel experiences we have had in Kerala. It is set right adjacent to the lake and offers some of the best service with the best view. Our room came equipped with a large double bed, attached bathroom, TV, mini bar, telephone and temperature control.

The view of the lake can be seen through most of the rooms of this hotel. One of the best sights is the sunset was brilliantly visible over the still waters. We spent most of the relaxing and reading at the hotel enjoying the view, and the tranquility.
After spending most of the day lounging and relaxing we made an effort to do something other than that and explore the nearby nights of Kollam. Since it’s not a popular destination there aren’t many places to visit. Since it was evening the hotel front desk attendant told us we couldn’t go to the cashew nut and coir making factories, but we could visit the nearby port.

Since my friend has strange fondness for fishes, we decided to go to the port. Even during the after hour the port of bustling with activity and men calculated their earnings, negotiating, repairing nets. It made for an interesting sight.
After spending about half an hour at the port our next destination was the market area, where a particular Keralan handicrafts shop caught my, they stocked the most amazing handmade artifacts, bought a hat and a beautiful scarf for myself as a memento of the trip.
Our next destination was the lighthouse, since I was kid I was always fascinated with the light houses, this was indeed marvelous. Since we hadn’t done much activity for the past two days we decided to climb all the way, and sight which wait was clearly worth it.
