The travel from Agra to Guwahati was very comfortable. We had travelled around 200 km but there was no tiredness or fatigue in any of us. After a short stay at our hotel for lunch and unpacking we headed for our first place of visit was one of the most holy and famous temples of Assam known as the Hayagriva madhava Temple located on the outskirts of Guwahati.
The place is revered both by the Hindus and the Buddhists of the region. The idol inside the temple is that of Lord Vishnu which resembles Lord Jagannath of Puri. The Buddhist monks believe that Buddha received his incarnation here and the idol inside resembles that of Buddha. The temple is located on a hill which is known by the name of Manikuta. The temple is divided into three parts.

The first part is the centre of the temple, then comes the basement and Shikhara. The Shikhara is one of the best parts of the temple which I loved a lot. It is a pyramid like structure and continues up till the apex point. The whole structure rests on huge pillars of bricks and is considered as one of the addition which was later made to the original structure of the temple. The entrance hall to the temple is also very huge which is made of bricks and measures about 40 feet by 20 feet in area.
Inside the complex of the temple there is a flight of steps which leads to the Garbhagrisha containing the idol of the deity. The entrance to this shrine is made from four blocks of granite. Another beautiful part inside the temple are two stone screens which are cut in the form of lotus flowers. In the exterior of the temple one can find sculptured figures of the 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu.
The trip to this temple was a fascinating beginning to our Assam trip. We were very thrilled after visiting this wonder of a temple. after this we headed for our next place which was the academic complex of IIT Guwahati, one of the premier institutes of our nation.
