My family vacation to Assam gave a unique opportunity to taste the Aloo Pitika from the region. It is a mashed potato dish with hints of shaved ginger, mustard oil and mustard paste. The dish also tasted a tad spicy because of the chili in it. It is known to be the soulful comfort food from the North East.

Hello to all my readers. I Geeta Sharma, am glad that you guys read all my blogs which helps me to improve every day and even motivates me to write more and more. Well, as you know about my travel experiences and my love to explore various cities, today I am here to share about something informative to one and all. This time I have made up my mind to check out the luxury aspect of one of the top resorts near Delhi. Well, actually I want to indulge in the exquisiteness of a top class resort and take a dive into the plush treats of a 5 star resort. I started my planning by checking out the top class resorts in and around Delhi, and I was surprised to see so many resorts offering the best services. I was mystified by the choices offered so I thought of trying an elimination method, which has always helped me till date. I started with noting down the services I needed, and then compared with what the high class resorts had to offer. I was looking for a relaxing and sophisticated resort, with spa and multi cuisine services on my priority. I finally came up with three choices: Maple Exotica Chattarpur, Tivoli Grand Resort, and Ashok Country Resort. I would like to share some of the noteworthy features of all three resorts, before I tell you my last decision. The first one was Maple Exotica Chattarpur. It is a 4 star hotel and is spread all over 8 acres of land in the posh South Delhi. It offers the following exclusive features:
The second resort near Delhi, Tivoli Grand Resort - it was located in a calm place far from the noise and pollution of the capital city. Everything is grand about the place- classy design of entire premises, perfect for leisure and business visitors, contemporary style all over, and it is needless to say that it offers every facility required by the visitors. Last resort was Ashok Country Resort. It has been designed in eco-friendly manner, there are wonderful designs all over, perfect blend of modernity and tradition and a suitable place for every person. The images of this resort touched my soul and I made my final decision to land here directly from Agra. We ended the first day of our trip to Assam by visiting the academic complex of IIT Guwahati. The campus of the institute impressed us all. The next day we decided to begin our trip by a visit to one of the holiest Shakti Peeths in the country, the Kamakhya Temple of Guwahati which is dedicated to the tantric goddesses. There are 108 shakti peeths in the country and the main one is Kamakhya Temple. There are many legends and mythical stories which are associated with this temple. There are 10 small temples around the main temple which are dedicated to different Goddesses. Kamakhya is a Sanskrit word which signifies Kama or Love making. There are also stories and legends that Kamakhya Devi is the place where Lord Shiva and Sati had love encounters. There are many interesting things about this temple. One among them is the incomplete staircase which is said to be built by Naraka. Another important and interesting fact about this temple is that inside there is no image or idol of Goddess Shakti. There is only the yoni of the goddess which is the main object of reverence amongst the devotees. There is a natural spring inside the premises of the temple which keeps the yoni moist. The yoni inside the temple also bleeds during the summers and often referred as the bleeding Goddess. Till date there is no scientific reason established on how the water inside the temple turns red. The main shrine which is the yoni is situated inside the middle of the main chamber of the shrine. A small staircase leads us to the dark room alongside the natural springs where one could see the devotees offering prayers to the goddess. A symbolic yoni is covered with a red cloth inside the main shrine which is worshipped by all the pilgrims. It was a very scintillating visit to the Kamakhya Temple. It made me proud on how much we adored Shakti or the feminine aspect of God. After this visit we headed for our next place which was known as the Rang Ghar pavilion of Assam.
After the adventurous trip to the Kaziranga national Park, we were quite tired so we headed back to our hotel in Guwahati after a long drive. For this trip we already had made an advance online booking in one of the best hotels of the city, Hotel Rajmahal. The hotel, a four starrer property is located in the middle of the city and is about 22 km from the airport. This is one of the best hotels in the city for all kinds of tourists whether for leisure or business purposes. The hotel is an abode of comfort and luxury which takes care of every need and wants of the guests staying there. The staffs of the Hotel Rajmahal Guwahati are very hospitable. The lovely decorations and the neat and clean interiors are sure to please one and all. There are many services which are provided by the hotel to its guests to make their trip amazing and memorable for a long time to come. There are 71 rooms in the hotel and there are many amenities which are there for the people. One can find two restaurants, a coffee shop, a bar and 24 hour room service. The Banzra is a mult cuisine restaurant of the hotel while Peshawari is pool side restaurant. One can also enjoy delicious pastries and light snacks at the Manan café. Those who love to enjoy drinks and wine may try them at Madhushala. The hotel also maintains a banquet hall with a capacity of about 1000 people which is known as Ashirwad. Apart from all this the hotel also has many other features like a state of the art gym cum fitness centre, spa and sauna centre, a round table conference room and many other facilities. We booked an AC deluxe room on the 10th floor which gave a beautiful view of the Guwahati city from the windows. The room had all the basic amenities one expects from a top class hotel and we spent another lovely night there. After spending the night we decided to begin next day’s excursion with a trip to the Gurgaon Kareng ghar in Assam.
Pitha Cake : The Pitha cake is crunchy and savory to taste contrary to what the name suggests. I had the Pitha cake in Bengal and it was filled with sugar, coconut shavings and poppy seeds and deep fried. The dough was made of wheat and a spoonful of sugar. It made for a very yummy evening snack.
