It was noon and we were feeling hungry. It was already time to lunch, but we decided to hog on some local food in the streets of Ahmedabad rather than going back to our hotel. We ate at a local restaurant nearby and relished the local taste. We were so mesmerized with the earlier two destinations that we decided to visit another mosque. All this chatting and decision making was done over lunch. Soon we were moving closer to our next destination, which is a mosque of Sidi Sayed.
We actually went to see the Sidi Sayed Jali, which is located in a mosque where Muslims come and offer their prayer to the almighty daily. This art work is located on the rare side of the mosque and tourists in large number visit the place to view this precise art work from all over the world. Situated in the Ahmedabad city, the Sidi Saiyad Jali, stands out to be one of the best artistic works of our country.
We reached the mosque and went to its rear side to witness the renowned artwork. We were mesmerized by the work that we saw. It was very fine work and needed the assistance of a magnifying glass to view the intricate designs properly. The design consists of numerous flowers, which are arranged in different symmetrical shapes. At some portions of the jail are depicted events of war between the King of Ahmedabad and the rulers of various towns of Gujarat- the Rajput Solanki.
This magnificent artwork was made in the fourteenth century as a remembrance to the famous Mughal Queen Sipri. Everyone who was present there was praising the artwork made on the jali of smooth white stones with carvings done by human hands. No doubt, it took 45 artists working day and night to make this 16-foot semi circular jail in around six years. The jali was created basically to illuminate the mosque from all sides and at all times. And this masterpiece was created after all this effort and precision. It is so precious that its replicas are put in famous museums of Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Delhi and Hyderabad.
