It is easily accessible by road from Kottayam, we left from kottayam at around 9 in the morning and reached Kumarkoam after a 3 hour drive. Luckily our house boat was waiting for us, a welcome sight fort my tired body.
The house boat are the best way explore the backwaters of Kerala, ours was a big one, we had booked it for an overnight stay. The houseboat came equipped with an AC bedroom with attached bathroom, a separate hand wash and lounging cum dining area at the front.
The Backwaters of Kerala are a network of interrelated canals, rivers, lakes and inlets, a labyrinthine system formed by more than 900 km of waterways. In the middle of this setting there are a number of towns and cities, which serve as the starting and end points of backwater cruises.
Our houseboat travelled at a leisurely pace through the backwaters of Kumarakom, while we lounged around to soak in the lovely views and relax.
After sunset, the houseboat anchored on a grass land, which seemed to us was a stopping place for a number of houseboats, we got off the houseboat and walked around, exchanging pleasantries with fellow houseboat travelers and taking in the views before nightfall.
At night, the experience of calmness and serenity is increased by tenfold, alone under starlit sky we just idling away time and too captivated to sleep.
