One of the popular and highly advertised tourist destinations in Kerala is the Kumarakom, famous for its back waters. While planning the trip we had planned an overnight stay to truly enjoy the back waters of Kumarakom.
It is easily accessible by road from Kottayam, we left from kottayam at around 9 in the morning and reached Kumarkoam after a 3 hour drive. Luckily our house boat was waiting for us, a welcome sight fort my tired body.

The staff which helped us navigate and manage houseboat were very gracious and cordial and gave us a warm welcome. The boat began to start on its journey through the backwaters. From the first view, the backwaters took our breath away with their almost surreal beauty.
The Backwaters of Kerala are a network of interrelated canals, rivers, lakes and inlets, a labyrinthine system formed by more than 900 km of waterways. In the middle of this setting there are a number of towns and cities, which serve as the starting and end points of backwater cruises.

Soon it was time for lunch, they served freshly cooked traditional South Indian meal which was indeed delicious, and the lunch at the houseboat was one of the best lunches we had in long alone, in the middle of the lake with awesome views, soulful breeze and delicious food.
After sunset, the houseboat anchored on a grass land, which seemed to us was a stopping place for a number of houseboats, we got off the houseboat and walked around, exchanging pleasantries with fellow houseboat travelers and taking in the views before nightfall.
At night, the experience of calmness and serenity is increased by tenfold, alone under starlit sky we just idling away time and too captivated to sleep.
