The city consist of various temples, forts, handicraft markets that could symbols the art of Rajasthan. ONe such example of Excellent Rajasthani artwork is the Bhandasar jain temple in Bikaner.
After getting down the train, we had decided to have some light breakfast and planned out all the details of our trip that was lay ahead. Earlier, we had short listed some famous destinations in the city of Bikaner and accordingly we sorted out the modes of transportation available to visit each such place. Since we had decided to start with the Junagarh Fort, Bikaner and the place was completely unknown to all of us, we hired a car. The fort was built way back during the period 1589–1594 by the then King Raja Rai Singh. The fort was built with red sandstones and marbles and it was then controlled by the Government of Rajasthan. The fort was initially named as the Chintamani, but later on, in the twentieth century it was renamed as the Junagarh Fort. This was the most important fort and built on land, not like the other forts which were present on hill tops. The Bikaner city was developed surrounding that fort and we learnt that it drew lots of foreign tourists every day. The best part about the fort was its design and till that day, the designs and sculptures looked brand new. They made us realize the quality of the work of the designers and sculptors in those times. The designers were of high quality and the fort was the perfect example of their brilliance. We thanked the local workers employed by the state government for taking the initiative to maintain that historical building which was a symbol of pride for our country. The fort was famous for its connection to various memorable events in history. We even found a museum where lots of ancient things and collections were kept for the visitors. Photography was undoubtedly one of my favourite pastimes and I was thrilled to have pictures of such a famous fort. I had always dreamt of visiting forts like that and I was extremely happy as my dream had come true that day. Since it was winter, the sky wasn’t clear that time. The view of the huge Junagarh Fort, Bikaner in the foggy sky was amazing. Our next destination was the Lalgarh Palace, which we learnt was nearby.
Gadi Sagar Lake Jaisalmer : Gadi Sagar Lake is one of the most popular tourist location situated in Jaisalmer. A beautiful lake in the middle of a dry land. The view was perfect for my camera. You can also reach this lake through camel ride that is what I did and believe it ill be fun.
From the Deshnok temple, we headed towards our next destination which was the famous Laxmi Nath temple, Bikaner. We knew that it was located in the outskirts of the city and accordingly had eaten some snacks before entering the temple. It was considered to be one of the oldest temples of Rajasthan. The foundation of the temple was done way back in the year 1488 A.D. by the then King named Rao Bikaji. The place played an important role in the history of Rajasthan and was considered to be one of the most special historical monuments which had a special identity of their own. The temple was designed by the then artisans and designers and we could see their brilliance through the designs that were still strong on the walls. It was famous for the deities of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi, who were worshipped there. The temple was an example of superb designs and beautiful inscriptions. We learnt that ever since it was established, the deities had witness an uncountable number of prayers from their followers for the last four and half centuries. The temple was further expanded during the time of Maharaja Ganga Singh and it was treated as one of the most fantastic destinations of Bikaner. We got to see many superb creations of art and traditional sculptures that were displayed in the complex. We were simple enchanted by the immense creativity of the sculptors who were given the credit of establishing the beautiful temple. The Laxmi Nath temple, Bikaner looked extremely new and in the beginning when we didn’t know about the original age of the temple, some of us had thought that it was constructed just some centuries before. We also saw some foreign visitors and from their conversation, we deciphered that they were seriously impressed as well. The temple truly depicted the magnificence of India. We learnt that many festivals were celebrated in the temple at different times of the year and people from various corners of Rajasthan used to come for attending each of them. Some people even come to celebrate special occasions and seek blessings from the goddess. We left that place quite early as we had planned to spend more time at our next destination which was the famous Jaisalmer Fort. After a fabulous morning Patan Devi mandir, it was time to go out and visit SriKrishna Science Center. It was at a distance of 5km from the hotel. We moved out and got into a rickshaw that dropped us in front of Sri Krishna Vigyan Kala Kendra. It is one of the institutions that offers great opportunities for the students of college and schools to explore and understand science and technology. It educates students, which would help in scientific innovations in future. It is located in West Gandhi maidan in Patna. It was already 11am. When we reached the location. It is a modern building and had an alluring surrounding. The science center is one of the institutions under the National Council of Science Museums. We moved in to see what was in store for us. Science and technology are my favorite subjects and I love to hear and know about innovations. We walked through the center. There are various sections like mirrors and images gallery, fun science gallery, evolution, Jurassic Park, Science Park and so on. The Fun Science Gallery is located in the ground floor and it exhibited excellent projects that simplify Math and Physics. I also was keen student during my school days; I was interested in making interesting science projects. I have also won prizes as couple of times. So, while watching the exhibits it was like refreshing my memory. On the first floor was the mirrors& images gallery, which displays interesting facts about science. Another section on the same floor was the 3D show. It is something, irrespective of age that people enjoy. We watched with excitement the objects on the screen that seemed real and coming towards us. I remember watching 3D movies; it was a feeling as such. Another interesting section was the Jurassic Park with huge models of dinosaurs. It is an ultimate fascination for all. It is like wild imagination of the gigantic creatures that lived on earth! The center also has all information about the famous Indian Scientists. By visiting the science center, I experienced the ocean of knowledge. It is truly Patna’s pride! We were winding our trip in Patna; our return journey was the next day. We enjoyed the trip and looking forward to visit another exotic location soon.
Padri Ki Haveli Patna : Padri ki haveli in Patna is amongst one of the oldest churches of Bihar. It is actual name is St. Mary’s Church. The church was initially built in 1713 but suffered many damages during India's independence struggle. An amazing fact related to this church is that our very own Mother Teresa received her training here.
I was all set to go for some shopping and visit the major part of the city. Gandhi Maidan as it is called, is the main hub of the city, which is a major market area as well as has most of the government offices, banks and other organizations around it. It was 5km away from the hotel; I hired a rickshaw to get to the place. The city looked much busier and as it was a working day for the offices, I could see many vehicles on the road and people were rushing to get to their work places. Patna has a modern infrastructure and it looked stylish with tall buildings. I was happy to a see a tall building that was towering over the others. It looked majestic from a distance. It is the Biscomaun Bhawan, which is known as the tallest building in the city. It also has Patna’s only revolving restaurant. I walked towards the building to know more about it. It really looked tall and as I walked towards it, I saw a security guard. I wanted to enquire a few things so I walked up to him to gather information about the building. He told me that the building was 71m high had most of State Government offices and Nalanda Open University in the building. Gandhi maidan or Patna lawns is a historical place where several movements of freedom struggle cropped up. It is an extensive ground and has the tallest Gandhiji statue in bronze, which is 70 feet tall. It is a breathtaking sight! The areas around are must see if you are in Patna. I walked along to reach Boring Road that is a popular expensive market in the city. It has shops of all major brands and I could see a large crowd in the area. I did not have much in mind for shopping but got busy clicking photographs of the busy city. As I walked along, I could see a number of schools in the area. St.Xavier’s High School, Christ Church Diocesan School and so on. Another major institute in the area is the Institute of Fashion Technology. Patna is a great city and has much to offer its visitors. |
