After spending couple of days in Patna, the city seemed very enchanting. It had unique and alluring features that attract many people to explore. After a journey through one of the longest river bridges in the country, my next visit was to the historic Sikh worship center. It was in the morning when I along with my family decided to go and offer prayers at the Gurudwara. The historic worship place stood in the heart of the city; people can access it very easily. The building is white in color with high rising domes.
The history of the Gurudwara goes like this. It is built in memory of the birthplace of 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh in the 18th Century. It was rebuilt twice in 1839 and 1954. It is believed to be one of the five Holy Takhts of the Sikhs. It seems that Guru Nanak visited Pataliputra before his visit to the pilgrim center Gaya. It is a well maintained worship place and I collected a scarf at the entrance and tied it on my head, which is compulsory for all entering the Gurudwara. Most of the scarves are in orange color. As I walked into the spacious prayer room, I could experience the divinity and positive power within.
On one side, hymns were being recited in Punjabi and I love hearing it, though I understand very little about it. However, I have visited other Gurudwaras in different places and so I tried to join their prayers by telling the little I know, ‘Jo bole so nihaal- Satsri- Aakaal’ and ‘Waheguru’. It is indeed a wonderful feeling to be a part of their prayers. As soon as the recitation was over, devotees formed a queue to receive the ‘prasad’, the sacred pudding. I love it anytime and it tastes awesome! It is prepared with very few ingredients as ghee, atta, sugar and water with a continual recitation of prayers.
And that day was special too, as some devotee had organized ‘langar’. It was already 12:15 and I thought I could stay and have food there. Though there were a large number of devotees food was distributed quickly. We found a place and sat there for lunch. I had some yummy puris, channa, rice, dal and kheer. Food within the holy places will taste superb anytime! It was a great day in prayers!
